Maneki-Neko (FUTR).
‘Maneki-Neko’ is a concept design. The idea, was to take a pop culture icon that is as well a sort of traditional object from Japanese culture, and update it as a contemporary design object, without losing its core aesthetic elements.
Beckoning the now.
I transformed the original idea of the ‘beckoning cat’, into an interactive object with “emotional” responses through the integration of a motion sensor inside its body. This allows Maneki-Neko to change its facial expressions with LEDs, located behind a screen, that act as its own eyes.
